On Novermber 5, 2010 at 06:30 am the Potsdam Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the address of 90 State Highway 72. Assistant Chief Perry(36-4) called enroute to the scene moments later and immediately requested mutual aid tankers and manpower from Parishville and Hannawa Falls. At 0633 hours central dispatch advised all units that there was possible entrapment, 36-4 arrived on scene at 0634 hours and confirmed a working fire on the first floor of the house. Engine 80 staffed by firefighters J. Lavoie, C. Corbett, B. Barton and pump operator John Keleher responded at 0635 hours and were advised from 36-4 that there was in fact one person trapped inside the residence. Engine 80 arrived on scene at approximately 0638 hours and the crew was immediately directed to the location of the trapped victim by civilians on scene. Firefighters were able to remove the victim through a window who was later identified as Everett Halford but unfortunately he could not be revived. Meanwhile, a water supply was established with porta-tanks and crews stretched 2 hose lines and were able to extinguish the main body of fire. Tower 5 was called to the scene for roof operations and Rescue 14 was called to provide additional equipment and tools. Engine 49 was set up to fill tankers on Pierrepont Ave. West Stockholm was called to provide man power on scene while Canton was called to standby in Potsdam station. Fire investigators conducted an investigation revealing that a cigarette in a couch was the cause of the fire. All Potsdam units were back in service at approximately 1145 hours
