On May 23, 2012 at approximately 0845hrs. the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department and Potsdam Rescue Squad responded to a reported 2 vehicle head-on motor vehicle accident with serious injuries and entrapment. Units arrived on scene and found one person ejected from a vehicle, and two additional persons trapped in the wreckage. The ejected occupant was found to be deceased, and fire and rescue units quickly put their extrication equipment to work to remove the seriously injured occupants of the vehicles. The victims were freed and removed to the hospital by Potsdam Rescue. Garner's Funeral Home arrived on scene to remove the deceased occupant. Fortunately for all involved, this was only a display to Potsdam Central Students showing the dangers and outcome of driving while intoxicated. Hundreds of students looked on as Fire, Rescue, and Potsdam Police worked the scene, showing the reality and results of poor decision making. Prior to the drill, students were given a presentation by the New York State Police on impaired driving and the life-long results it can create. The Potsdam Fire Department would like to remind all community members and students alike of the serious and deadly results of impaired driving, and wishes all a safe and happy graduation season. |
