Mutual Aid to West Potsdam for Propane Explosion

On Monday, August 19th 2024 at 0500 hours, Potsdam Fire was requested to respond automatic mutual aid to a reported structure fire at 280 Waite Road in West Potsdam. West Potsdam's 47-2 requested for Potsdam Fire to be upgraded on response for engine and manpower to the scene. At 0504 hours, Engine 80 (J. Keleher) responded, followed by Tanker 100 (S. Corbett) and Rescue 14 (B. Andrus). Engine 80 arrived on scene at 0509 hours where it was requested to stretch one 1 3/4" handline to a crawl space area. Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire in the crawl space of the residence. Engine 80 was also utilized for it's light tower for scene lighting. Firefighters also used a thermal imaging camera to check for extension where it was found no fire had extended into the main story of the residence. The cause of the fire was found to be a propane explosion by an unknown ignitable source. One resident was injured and transported to CPH by Parishville Rescue and one firefighter was transported to CPH by Canton Rescue for heat exhaustion. Potsdam Fire was in service at 0652 hours.
