By Fire Driver Mark Maroney
October 11, 2022

On Tuesday, October 11th 2022, at 1249 hours, Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and County Car 10 were dispatched to 950 Bagdad Road, for a reported structure fire. At 1250 hours, Engine 49 chauffeured by Career Fire Driver Robar responded. A request was made for mutual aid from Hannawa Falls Fire with engine, tanker, and manpower to the scene and a tanker and manpower from West Stockholm Fire to the scene. At 1253 hours, Engine 49 arrived on scene, and confirmed a working fire. Shortly after alarm, Tanker 100 (J. Keleher) and Rescue 14 (Ju. McGregor) responded.

First Assistant Chief Mark Bradish (36-2) arrived on scene and assumed command of the fire. A 2nd alarm for Potsdam Fire was requested for manpower and Tower 5 to the scene. West Potsdam Fire was also requested for tanker and manpower to the scene.

Firefighters on scene stretched a 1 3/4" hose line from Engine 49 and made an interior attack on the fire from the house into the garage area of the structure. Firefighters quickly placed ground ladders to the building to provide access to prevent the extension of the fire. Tower 5 (J. Corbett) responded to the scene and was extended to the roof where vent holes were cut to remove the heat and toxic gasses from the building. Firefighters from Potsdam along with other mutual aid departments worked to pull ceilings and blown insulation out of the area of the fire to prevent the spread/extension of the fire.

Canton Fire was requested to standby at Potsdam Fire Station during the incident. Potsdam Rescue provided rescue standby at the scene. Red Cross was requested for the occupants of the home. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the St. Lawrence County Investigation Team. Potsdam Fire was in service at 1819 hours.

Units: Engine 49 (J. Robar), Tanker 100 (J. Keleher), Tower 5 (J. Corbett), Rescue 14 (Ju. McGregor)

Mutual Aid: Hannawa Falls Fire, West Stockholm Fire, West Potsdam Fire, Canton Fire
